As a result of the funds raised from this event NAMI Scranton has made purchases to enhance services provided through the New Beginnings Drop In Center in Montrose, Scranton Counseling Center and the Moses Taylor Hospital Senior Medical Mental Health Unit. NAMI volunteers have ‘adopted’ a unit at Clarks Summit State Hospital and host monthly parties that feature cake, ice cream, activities and sometimes gifts.
“This years Evening of Hope comes at a time when agencies providing behavioral health services are experiencing deep budget cuts. Through this event we are reaching out to the Greater Scranton community to help these agencies,” said NAMI Scranton Executive Director, Marie Onukiavage.
In addition to highlighting mental health issues and raising funds, the Evening of Hope is another opportunity for the community to recognize this year’s Candlelight and Crisis Intervention Team Leadership Award winners which are announced at the Candlelight Vigil during Mental Illness Awareness Week.
This Annual Gala features Music, Honored Speakers, and a HUGE Raffle (a highlight each year) all while enjoying a delicious meal, drinks, and networking.
